Amsterdam Artist Giulio Gomes, inspired by women, and tattoo, describes himself as a serious young painter with a raw style. People tend to hate or love his art, he says. “I think this is because I am not afraid to paint what I feel. This results in a pure painting filled with raw emotions, with an urban edge.”
He says his style is like “two girls gettin it on, you can look at it for ever…”
He continues: “To me art is an intense emotion you get from something. This could be a painting, play, poetry or even an object. I mainly get my inspiration from things that happen in my life. I also get inspiration from tattoos, woman or just simply walking down the street. What lately has been a huge inspiration to me is LOVE.”
Can you tell us what you have going on right now?
“Right now I’m finishing up my ‘I never told her series’. After that I will be doing another art project that I already have set my mind to. I’m also busy organizing a solo exhibition in Amsterdam. Make sure to check out my website http://www.giuliogomes.com to see what I am up to.”
In answer to the question where Giulio would like to exhibit he answers: “I would love to exhibit my work in Barcelona again. I have exhibited there before and I am really in love with the city and in a way Barcelona has been the starting point of my art career. I remember going there with college and seeing Gaudi’s architecture it inspired me and when I came home I started painting myself. I started knowing then, that art is more… more than meets the eye.”
