British-African Artist and Fashion Designer Jenny-Brenda Musungay combining her love for Art and Fashion – Amsterdam International Art Fair 2015

Jenny-Brenda Musungay is a British-African Artist and Fashion Designer. Born in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. (Languages; French and English). Her family left D.R.C when she was only 15 months to live in Johannesburg, South Africa. There she attended North Cliff Primary School. In 1998 her family relocated to West London, England.

In 2006 she studied A-Levels in: English Literature, French, Art and Media Studies at Paddington Academy Sixth Form in West London. Alongside her love for sports, she showed interest in Fine Art and Design. During those years she also developed an interest in Photomontage, Collage and Expressionist Art. Her influences include, German Communist John Heartfield and Fine Artist Paula Rego.

In 2008 she went on to study Graphic Information Design at the University of Westminster. This allowed her to further develop her skills in combining both, Photomontage and Fine Art in a digital form, thus Digital Art. In 2012 she exhibited her first Photomontage Animation project, King Leopold II PRV at the P3 gallery in Baker Street. After having graduating with a BA (Honors) in Graphic Information Design, her next challenge was to be able to combine her drawing skills to break into the Fashion industry. In 2014, she began working on ideas for her own Fashion brand, Yag-Sun London. In a city already famed for its fashion, there were already a lot of influences; with a clever blend of 80s/90s, London Grunge and Skater styles and patterns is what represents Yag-Sun. This brand is a combination of different elements, i.e. Art, Music, Fashion and culture, with Jenny-Brenda’s authentic twist. Combining her love for Art and Fashion is also what Yag-Sun London represents.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?
I get my inspiration from many things really. Everyday Life. It plays a big part etc. Beliefs. Love. And Science (Biology and Physics) is where I get my inspiration from too.

WHICH ARE YOUR FAVOURITE ARTISTS?
My favourite artists are John Heartfield, Raoul Hausmann, Van Gogh and Paula Rego.

MY BEST FRIEND WOULD SAY ABOUT ME..
I’m driven, ambitious, confident and CRAZY! (Fun crazy)

I BELIEVE IN KARMA BECAUSE…
I’ve done good-deeds and good has been given to me. And I’ve done bad-deeds and bad things have happened to me. THE UNIVERSE SPEAKS.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PASTIME APART FROM PAINTING OR CREATING ART?
Well, I enjoy writing poetry… I’ve been writing a lot, but I have not yet published anything. But I am considering spoken poetry.
