Sophia Shiyan (www.sophiashiyan.com)was born in Moscow in 2002. She educates at the British International School of Moscow and deeply studies history of Art. Sophia began drawing from early age, using different techniques and moved onto the technique of oil painting by herself. Sophia works together with established artist Ashot Kirakosyan and such a creative competition of the master with the student became one of the key factors in Sophia’s art evolution. Their cooperative project devoted to the transformation of an Iris successfully debuted at the X Biennale in Florence. Within her favorite artists there are Ilya Mashkov, Vincent Van Gogh and, of course, Henri Matisse. Still life and landscapes from life make up the base of her working, as well as characterizing her sincerity and strong feeling of color. Geography of her works includes Moscow, Paris, Languedoc and Provance, Wallonia and Croatia, while continuously widening in the endless search for new friends and interesting places.

Q&A

6

Where do you get your inspiration…?

I get very inspired by music. Since I consider myself a creative person, to me art can be in more than one aspect. Music is something I would say I cannot live without and it sure inspires me to create my paintings.

Can you tell us what you have going on right now…?

Can you tell us what your ‘Before I Die’ is…? To spend as much time as possible with the people that matter to me. There is a narrow circle of people that bring color to my life and one significant ‘Before I die’ would be sharing my happiness with the ones I love.

Which are your favorite artists…?

Within my favorite artists are Vincent Van Gogh, for his unique representation of color, Ilya Mashkov and Henri Matisse. I also enjoy the artworks of Kandinsky for his balance and harmony between shape, line and color.

9

What makes your art different than others…?

My individual understanding of the world and how I express in in my artworks. I mostly paint from life ( plain air painting ) and create still life from nature being in my studio, which is an important factor differing me from others.

Why should people invest into your artworks…?

Incase I become as famous as Vincent Van Gogh or Amedeo Modigliani
