“The art world is a bit of a joke and I´m Charles Chaplin”

Born in 1981, Victoriano immersed himself in the world of graffiti and street art from the age of 15, however most of the time anonymously o under different names. He pursued a career in design and luxury branding, holding numerous positions as Art Director and Senior Designer for companies in Spain and the United Kingdom. In 2009 he quit his day job to move into founding GraffitiCompany , a design agency based around graffiti aesthetics, with offices in UK, Spain and Hong Kong. Past clients include Sony, Facebook, Louis Vuitton, DKNY, WHotels, Google, Yahoo, Converse, Gillette. Since 2014 Victoriano has focused on producing artwork for his new collection, Cash & Carrier, artworks by the artist can be found in private collections across all continents.

This is an interview with Victoriano, Tokyo International Art Fair 2017 exhibitor.

“Tokyo International Art Fair 2017 has been an amazing experience, It was the first time I shown part of my new CMYK collection so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but was overwhelmed by all the nice comments, and I sold my 2 star pieces. All in all a great event, thanks GAA team!”

How do you deal with artist´s block?

I don´t know if I have that, usually have too many ideas and many never see the light, but I live by the sea so whenever I don´t feel like painting I´ll go for a swim.

Where do you see your art going in ten years?

Commissions aside, I only entered the art world in 2015 and in just 2 years I have painted for fun in many places around the world and sold over 50 pieces to private collections in every continent. I am quite ambitious so all I can say is “The sky is NOT the limit”

Can you tell us what you have going on right now?

I have just finalised a project in China that has taken over a year to complete, in which I will be (real size) painting a story on a video playing on huge 20 meter screens. It will be permanently displayed at the entrance of Taikoo Li, an amazing Luxury mall in the heart of Chengdu. In the studio I am working on my new collection of CMYK paintings, consisting in 4 layers of eco-glass, in each layer I write words with one semi-opaque color or the CMYK model (Cyan Magenta Yellow blacK). When all the layers are put together and looking at the piece from a distance you can see a rich mix of colors produced by the 4 colors mixing with each other, similar to how big adverts are printed but I use words instead of a halftone. In July I will be travelling to Copenhagen and Berlin to paint a few walls for fun, after that I will come back to the studio to prepare for a solo show in September.

Best Commissioned artwork ever done was…?

In 2009 I started GraffitiCompany ( previously graffiti4hire) a company that specialises in high end graffiti / street art commissions with offices in UK, Spain and Hong Kong, the company has designed and/or painted thousands of commissions over the last few years. To name a few we painted 4 NCL cruise ships, a passenger airplane (airbus 330), and have clients such us Facebook, Google, Sony & Yahoo. Since 2015 I focus on my personal artwork while I give creative advice & oversee the Graffiti company operation.

Best exhibition ever participated in…?

In November 2015 I presented my Cash & Carrier collection, consisting in vandalised designer shopping bags, at Loft22 In Lan Kwai Fong, the heart of Hong Kong, with over 4000 sq ft It had some of the most incredible views to HK most emblematic buildings.
