5,300 people passed through the doors of the Laurenskerk in Rotterdam last weekend to visit the first Rotterdam International Art Fair by Global Art Agency – one of the fastest growing platforms for contemporary art.

“Frank Migchielsen, Director of De Laurenskerk commented: It’s been an amazing event! Modern art in a mediaeval church with twinkling chandeliers was a very exciting combination, even more than I expected. We were very proud to have 200 exhibitors from over 34 countries here exhibiting at the Art Fair. We had no doubt it would be a success and that it would attract a large audience. With compliments for the professional organisation!”

“We’ve made good sales” said Reggie Khumalo who represented the African Art Consultants, “and anticipate more follow up thanks to the extent of the appreciation we’ve received”. “It’s been a fantastic weekend,” agreed Maria Grazia Todaro from Queen Art Studio, who represents contemporary artists from around the world.

The organiser Joelle Dinnage commented: “The Rotterdam Art Fair at the Laurenskerk venue was sublime. The decor and architecture compliments the artworks on show. It is breathtaking. To bring all this talent from all over the world to the people of Rotterdam has been very well received. Even so good that there was a queue outside the door on both days before opening.”

Exhibitor Iwona Lifsches from Poland said: “It has been an unforgettable experience. It was organised perfectly. The Laurenskerk is so beautiful by itself and full of spirit. The result was awesome and magical. The hundreds of smiles from visitors in Rotterdam are unforgettable. I did not expect to receive such a warm welcome in the Netherlands, as well as that was nice to sell three paintings and get orders for next two ones.”

William Ashlock, self taught artist born in Leicester with a love for the art of Drew Struzen, Hayao Miyazaki and Mark Zug, sold four pieces. He commented: “I met some great people and enjoyed the overall experience much.”

Sculptor, Lilian Steenhuisen said: “On Friday I was approached by a gallery owner who was thrilled about my work and wants me to show my sculptures in his gallery. And on Saturday I sold a rather big bronze sculpture to people who came over all the way from Belgium. Then I sold another artwork to a colleague exhibitor.”

The Global Art Awards ceremonie was another highlight of the Art Fair. The four Best Artist Award winners were announced plus one visitor won an original piece of art by Award-Winning artist Ellen Stapleton worth 500 Euro’s.

The Jury existing of well-known Artist Berry de Bruin, Gallery Manager Karen Mertens and Actrice Funda Mujde had a tough decision. Funda commented: “It’s was a joy to see so much talent in a location like the beautiful Laurenskerk, but because there was great diversity and multiple categories such as art, photography, and many variations in technique in terms of paintings / drawings, made it extra difficult for the jury.” Together with the Global Art Agency team they reached a final decision.
